Manolo Blahnik and the Tale of the Elves & the Shoemaker

Every year, on Christmas Eve night, my two best girlfriends, (and now extending to husbands and boyfriends) get together for some Holiday cheer and to exchange presents.  I want to share one of my gifts~
I am not sure how I didn't hear about this series, but certainly thankful my best friend had the watchful eye on this one :) What's not to love about the story of a shoe designer turned fairytale.  I LOVE fairytales!
Below is an excerpt about the author.
And PS~it's rumored Diane von Furstenberg is next! :)
Camilla Morton, is a veteran fashion journalist with a best selling novel, How to Walk in High Heels, under her belt. But after years of writing countless show reviews, this fashion journo is now penning…fairy tales. “I am enchanted by how clothes make you feel, and the people behind it,” Morton said. “Because sometimes the magic and the art of creation gets forgotten in the rush to find the next big thing.” So Morton set about crafting fashion fairy tales, blending the lives of fashion icons with classic fairy tales. The icons supply the illustrations, of course (see an illustration by Manolo Blahnik, above left).
The first in her fashion fairytale memoir series blended Christian Lacroix‘s life story with the tale of Sleeping Beauty. Out this month is Manolo Blahnik and the Tale of the Elves on the Shoemaker. We talked to Camilla about what it was like to work with Manolo to write his fairy tale. Plus we’ve got a peak at some of Manolo’s gorgeous illustrations.

So, I decided to give Birchbox a try.  I am a beauty product junkie and love getting samples.  After seeing others post about Birchbox and seeing the samples they received, I figured it was a pretty safe bet to go ahead and sign up for the year.  (I am ok with taking chances) :)  I thought if nothing else, they are samples sizes-and I can use up a sample size.
December was the first month I received Birchbox (I also LOVE receiving mail).
This is what I received:

Benefit - The Porefessional

Camouflages visible pores with this velvety translucent face primer. (7.5mL/ 0.25 US fl. oz)
What I thought: This product did minimize pores, and felt a bit lighter on my skin than other foundation primers but created the same effect. I am a foundation girl, but this with just a tinted moisturizer (which I may switch to) worked just fine.

Jouer - Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Birchbox Pink
A Birchbox inspired semi-sheer fuchsia lip gloss for a hot pink pout. (Net Wt. 0.06 fl. oz.)

What I thought: I am not crazy about bright lip colors at the moment but this was non-sticky and fine with one application. Definitely sheer enough to not be so bright.

Harvey Prince - Ageless

What I thought: This scent was light and fresh. I have already used most of the sample. Wouldn't necessarily purchase a whole bottle, but I have enjoyed wearing this scent the last couple weeks.

Orofluido - Beauty Elixir (3.4 fl oz)
Vanilla Amber Scent
What I thought: I really like this product. I use it on my hair, which makes it incredibly soft. It has a nice, light scent and is not incredibly greasy on my hands after applying.

ShowStoppers - Designer Fashion Tape

Double-sided tape strips, which ensures your party dress stays perfectly in place-1 packetWhat I thought: I haven't had a need for fashion tape before but I am glad it was included so that now I have it in a "just in case" occasion.

EBoost - Orange Natural Energy Booster
Tangy citrus energy booster (1 packet)

What I thought: The tangy orange flavor wasn't bad. After drinking, didn't have a noticeable energy boost but nice change from regular water didn't hurt :)

Overall, I was impressed with Birchbox. The samples were ample sizes that will take me several weeks to use all of the product. I find that great since you have more than one try to see if you truly like a product and know if it is working for you.

Christmas Eve

I love everything about today.  Waking up, with my family, like it's 20 years ago and nothing has changed.  Christmas movies, hot cocoa, church-candelight service.  Then later, we will walk around the neighborhood to look at Christmas lights and then spend some time with my best friends.  I feel incredibly lucky and blessed that this is my Christmas Eve.  Hope all of you have a Very Merry Christmas!

Pink Christmas

This weekend I was fortunate enough to attend an open house (decorated for Christmas) with my boyfriend's Mom and Grandma.  The house was built in 1875 with a very distinct victorian/vintage feel to it.  Of course I was in heaven with all of the chandeliers.  One room in particular had more contemporary colors for Christmas- the bright pink, blue and green.  I am quite fond of pink/silver decorations-so delicate.  Here are a few images I love.

Christmas Week and The Nutcracker

It's the week before Christmas!  I can't believe it is finally here.  I am proud to say all the decorations, baking and gift wrapping has been done and I will be able to fully enjoy the week ahead.  One of my favorite Christmas traditions is the Nutcracker.  Although I was not able to go this year, these beautiful images remind me of the lovely story and music.

Christmas at Tiffany's

Wouldn't we all love to find one of Tiffany's little blue boxes under the tree?  I think I like the advertisements more than anything, especially around this time of year.  Here are some of my favorites....
My absolute favorite thing to do when I used to go to NYC at Christmas time was to walk by the store windows.  They were always (and still are) decorated so elaborately.  I could walk by with a hot cup of coffee for hours....

I am on a horrible sleep pattern lately.  It is a vicious cycle of falling asleep too late, waking up too late, running late.  One of the reasons I am able to make it after all of that is coffee.  It is my best friend some days.  With cold weather, there is nothing I would rather do than sit outside (bundled up on a cold morning-crazy, I know) with a warm mug of coffee.  I love my flavored coffee-caramel macchiato to be exact.  :)

Welcome December

Glad to see December arrive!  Although this time of year seems to fly by, it is one of my favorites.  Looking forward to the parties and wedding I have to attend.  Getting dressed up in all the glitz and glamour~it has been way too long!

Chandeliers make my day!  So pretty and so many variances.  I love one's with more of a vintage glamour feel.
Some of my faves...

Lazy Days

I am having a much needed lazy day!  Very rare that I can have a whole day to do whatever I want or nothing at all.  Today, I am choosing nothing at all :)
Catching up on my favorite shows and movies, and fashion magazines has never been better.  My dog is more than thrilled to be snuggled up for the day in a cozy room  with fluffy blankets and a candle burning.
Hope everyone is having a relaxing "after Thanksgiving" weekend as well.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I can't believe Thanksgiving is finally here!
Thanksgiving might be my favorite holiday of the year.  Time with family and friends, yummy food, shopping, football, relaxing....
I have so many things to be grateful for this year.  Especially the little every day things, they certainly don't go unnoticed.
Hope everyone has a blessed holiday weekend.

Finally, there is more of a chill in the air and it actually feels like November.  Can't wait to break out my cozy knits and sweaters!
I had a delightful weekend~did a little shopping, or more looking rather which was equally as nice and had a much needed lazy Sunday.
Looking forward to another one like it come Saturday :)
